Maalstroom celebrates its 10th anniversary with a very special programme!


An exciting new collaboration between these mainstays of the Dutch and British folk scene, who have joined together to create a unique sound. And what a result! Five terrific musicians – all composers of exquisite, original music - one tight band, sparkling with enjoyment. Inventive harmony vocals, reed-instrument duets and sophisticated arrangements of new and traditional material are interwoven with a warm, witty and humorous stage-presence.

Maalstroom (of which Flook’s Brian Finnegan was a founding member) is building a solid reputation as a live band, performing in the Netherlands, the UK, Belgium and Germany. ‘These guys do the right things the right way’ fROOTS.

Vocalist and saxophonist Jo Freya has a reputation for successfully reinventing herself in various bands and various guises. Best known for her past and current work with Blowzabella, Jo has been touring recently with her Lal Waterson Project (working with members of Chumbawamba and the Poozies) and her trio. Her CD Lal was described as: ’one of the best English folk related albums I’ve heard in some time’  SINGOUT USA SPRING 2008.
