" Maalstroom is a Dutch quartet which plays acoustic music inspired by Irish, English and Dutch traditional sounds. They released their first CD in 2000 and Maalstroom is their third release.
The eleven songs on this new cd are all original except for the song Sorrow is a lonesome bluebird which is based on a Swedish traditional. This song was recorded by Hedningarna before and it's good to hear that Maalstroom has a totally different interpretation of the song and make it almost sing like a long lost English folk song. And except for the song The cocks are crowing / Reel for kent which is a traditional as well. Besides these two tracks, the CD has nice other well played and pure tunes. I like the soft acoustic sound of the band. They keep the music very small and integer, which gives the songs and tunes a personal sound."
